Can a complete beginner fly a real drone? Yes — here is how Dronify makes that safe

By the Dronify team · Updated September 2026 · 4 minute read

Most of our pilots have never flown a drone before, and Dronify is built on the assumption that they never will in the traditional sense: no licence, no training flights, no manual to study. That only works because the system, not the pilot, is responsible for safety. This article explains what actually stands between a first-time pilot and a crash.

Every location is mapped in 3D before it opens

Before a location appears in the catalogue, a drone flies an autonomous survey of it and builds a three-dimensional obstacle map — every wall, tree, mast and roof, along with the shape of the ground itself. A trained administrator also draws the location's outer operating area and sets its height ceiling. The place is known, in detail, before any visitor flies there.

The flight envelope flies with you

While you fly, the system continuously computes where the drone could end up — including the distance it needs to brake from its current speed — and holds that entire envelope clear of every mapped obstacle and boundary. Steer straight at a wall and the drone slows and stops short of it, every time. This is not an alarm asking you to react; the protection does not depend on your reaction at all.

The tricky parts are automatic

Even abandoning a flight is safe

Connections drop; people close tabs. A drone whose pilot goes quiet returns to its dock on its own, along a route planned through the same obstacle map. Walking away from a Dronify flight mid-air leaves nothing in danger — which is exactly the standard an untrained pilot deserves.

Why accounts are approved by a person

One safeguard is human: every new account is reviewed and approved by an administrator before its first flight. Real aircraft fly over real places, and a person — not just a sign-up form — decides who takes the controls.

So what is left for you to do?

The good part. You choose where to go, how high, how fast within the location's limits, and where to point the camera. Flying feels like a simple video game — move, turn, climb — with the one difference that the world in your picture is real. If that sounds like enough responsibility, you are exactly who Dronify was built for.
